The Mark
The narrative of the mark is based on Homer’s Odyssey, focusing on the hospitality, that Alcinous, the king of the Phaeacians, and his daughter Nausicaa open heartedly offer to the shipwrecked and storm-tossed Odysseus. Our goal is to transfer you into a mythical, heroic era and urge you to identify with Odysseus the epic Greek Ionian hero known to all mankind. The story begins a few meters southeast of the hotel, on the beach. The designated starting point is the oar, the eternal symbol of the castaway, but also of our hero, Odysseus. Our narrator welcomes you and continues with a brief reference to the Odyssey. As you enter the hotel, you are greeted with a glass of Corfiot wine which is a fundamental symbol of Greek culture. A few meters further, our castaways arrive to a century old olive tree by the pool where wooden tables are set, embellished with treats and offerings with bread and olive oil as their foundation. The final stage of the experience concludes in the Core where the poem Ithaca by famous poet C. Kavafis is masterfully recited on film. The poem’s theme, inspired by the Odyssey, is the destination which produces the journey of life. Each guest receives an elegant card engraved with the poem’s verses in English as a memento.
